Ayia Napa Harbour is also known as Limanaki of Agia Napa and is one of the focal points in Agia Napa itself. Over the years there have been many changes to this area to make it more attractive and offer more facilities to all.
This charming harbour started off as a beautiful little cove and has now turned into a destination in its own right. There are more renovations and upgrades to come, but this place is a must-see. Ayia Napa harbour has turquoise water and all sorts of boats to see: fishing boats, known as kaikia, through to yachts, sail boats and speed boats. Visitors can board small cruise boats that take you around Ayia Napa and Protaras, or further away for a day trip.
The harbour through the day
There are pathways along the harbour and two pedestrian lanes that take you out to the two lighthouses. All along them you will find cafés, taverns and restaurants. The harbour comes alive at different times: early morning with fishermen coming back with their catch, then people strolling and taking breakfast, lunch at the fish taverns with fresh fish on the menu, and afternoon and evening with the hustle of shopping and the cafés filling up.
Saint George, and the events
Saint George is the small church found at the harbour, in the heart of the harbour square. Many weddings take place here — couples fall in love with it the minute they see it. Events run through the year, including Kataklysmos, the ceremony of throwing the cross into the sea for people to dive in and retrieve, with fireworks at night and feasting at the restaurants and taverns during the day.
Shopping is another draw: souvenirs, but also clothes, shoes and bags. Between the quaint shops, cafés, taverns, bars, fountains, events and an open-air theatre, there is a lot here beyond the boats.
