Panagia Lambadiotissa stands on the hill called ‘Koroni’ at Mitsero, a village in the Nicosia district about 28 kilometres south-west of the town. The chapel sits a little below the summit, which gives it panoramic views over Mitsero and the villages around it.
The dream
The small chapel was built by the residents of the village after a vision. The story goes that a man from the village dreamt that someone woke him and showed him where to find gold liras. In the morning he went to the spot with other villagers and they dug until they found them — and with the money they decided to build a chapel dedicated to the Virgin.
Construction began in 1966. North of the church, steps lead down to a natural source that runs with holy water. Between the chapel and the spring, hundreds of people visit each month, and the doors are kept open for them.
