Kamara tou Koraka

The Arch of the Crow, Cape Greco

Natural arch2 min readUpdated 28 September 2024

Kamara tou Koraka is a striking natural sea arch inside Cape Greco National Forest Park. Formed by millennia of erosion, the limestone span crosses the water below it and makes one of the most photographed points on this coast, ringed by rugged cliffs and open sea.

Getting to it

The arch is reached by hiking trails that wind through Cape Greco’s wild, largely untouched ground. The park is a protected nature reserve, home to a number of endemic plants and to migratory birds, and conservation work is in place to keep the ecosystem intact — stay on the marked paths.

Under the water

Diving and snorkelling around the Cape Greco peninsula are excellent, with underwater caves and rock formations making up a genuinely interesting marine environment.

The name translates as “Arch of the Crow”, which suits its dramatic, faintly mystical look. Local legend has it that the seclusion once made this a meeting point for smugglers; today it is simply one of the calmer places to stand on the island’s wilder side.

Sunset is when most photographers make the walk out.
