Cyprus has more waterfalls than you would expect of an island this size. They are not on the scale of the great falls elsewhere, but there are many of them, and Millomeri is the highest on the island — and one of the easiest to reach.
It lies in the Troodos mountains, not far from the island’s best-known fall at Caledonia. The name comes from the Greek μιλλος and μέρος — “wet area”. It sits in the south-eastern part of Pano Platres on the Kryos river, at an altitude of 980 metres, and the fall itself is 15 metres high.
Two trails
Like Caledonia, Millomeri has two hiking trails leading to it. One starts in Platres and takes about half an hour; it is the more demanding of the two, through varied vegetation and dense pine, with small bridges along the way and noticeably cooler air as you approach the water.
