Giolou’s third Zivania Festival connects the village’s places and people with the craft of distillation. On Sunday 11 October, a village tour from 16:00 to 18:00 takes in the Folk Tradition Museum, a photography exhibition, the traditional flour mill and village churches. The celebration then continues in Cafe Square from 18:00 until midnight. Visitors can watch zivania distillation, try the spirit without charge and join interactive traditional workshops. Palouzes grape pudding is also offered for free tasting. The announced food selection includes hot goat dishes, ofto kleftiko, resi, tsamarella and loukoumades; prices for these dishes have not been published. Music from Cyprus and Crete and traditional dances by the KTIMA Folklore Group shape the evening’s programme, with Giannis Fragkiadoulakis also appearing. Giolou Community Council organises the festival and honours villagers who have kept distillation skills alive. Entry is free. Check the community’s official announcement for updates.
