Cypriot meatballs
Afelia, a traditional Cypriot dish, is a flavourful marinated pork dish cooked in red wine and coriander seeds. It is popular throughout the island and is often served at special occasions and family gatherings.
The combination of tender pork and rich wine sauce makes a comforting meal for any occasion — and it needs only a few simple ingredients.
Marinate the pork fillet with the wine, pepper and coriander overnight, or at least two to three hours before cooking.
Heat the olive oil in a deep pot and add the meat with all the liquid from the marinade and ½ cup of water. Add salt to taste.
Lower the heat and let it cook for about 1 hour. Add more water if necessary, until the meat is cooked and tender.
Pair your afelia with traditional Cypriot pourgouri.
