Fig Tree Bay

Fig Tree Bay is the golden-sand beach at the heart of Protaras. Clear water, a compact bay and places to eat nearby make it an easy beach to build a day around. It is in the Paralimni area of Famagusta district, not in Famagusta city.

What to expect on the beach

The beach takes its name from a fig tree associated with the site since the seventeenth century. Toilets, changing rooms, sunbeds and umbrellas are available, with restaurants and kiosks nearby. €2.50 per sunbed, €2.50 per umbrella; €7.50 for two sunbeds and one umbrella. Parking and accessible sea entry

You can reach the beach on foot, by bicycle or by car, and parking facilities are available. Visit Cyprus lists a special wheelchair at the lifeguard tower for assisted entry into the sea. Contact the beach service before visiting if you depend on that equipment; availability and assistance need confirming.

Swimming and water sports

Water sports are available, but individual activities, prices and age limits should be checked with the operator on the day. Clear water is not a guarantee of safe conditions: check the beach flags, supervise children and follow lifeguard instructions.

More of the Protaras coast

At the northern end of Protaras, between Pernera and Kapparis, Sirena Bay offers a smaller sandy cove with turquoise water and a beach bar beside the sand. It makes a lovely choice for another day by the sea.
