In the Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus is an island worthy to be your next travel destination. Here you can experience nature in its pristine form. The island is known for its warm weather, and a host of so many things to see, particularly its wonderful beaches.
Named for a fig tree
One of the most popular beaches on our gorgeous island is Fig Leaf Bay or also known as Fig Tree Bay. This beach got its name from a great fig tree grown here, which was brought by the conquerors from the east in the 17th century. Besides, the entire coast abounds with a lot of fig trees.
The bay itself
The beach which stretches for about 500 metres is perfect for a long romantic stroll upon its golden sand lined along the vibrant blue water. The Fig Tree Bay has been voted the 3rd best beach in the world by Big Travel 7. This bay is accredited with the ‘Blue Flag’ for its excellent water quality and facilities for bathers. It has achieved the ‘Green Beach’ title too.
Fig Tree Bay is located in Famagusta city, which is the coastal resort of Protaras. Its added attraction is its spectacular fountain. Fig Tree Bay includes two natural bays, a northern sandy bay without vegetation and a south rocky bay. Enjoying the natural beauty all along the pedestrian trail, visitors can also enjoy water sports in addition to this mini nature walk.
On the water
The experienced staff ensure safety and fun for everyone who decides to take an adventure with the water sports available there. There is something for everyone, even families. Tassos Psaras in 1967 started Fig Tree Water Sports. Back then, the Fig Tree Bay was just a small fishing harbor, but today, it offers fourteen different types of water sports with the latest equipment and manned by experienced staff.
Visitors can also pass the time in the nearby park named Cape Greco. Don’t forget to check out the nightlife too as it is jam packed of fun too.
