Love Bridge, Ayia Napa

A natural rock arch at Cavo Greco

Natural arch3 min readUpdated 13 August 2024

In plenty of films you see couples standing on the Love Bridge in Paris, across the Seine. The Love Bridge of Cyprus is no less magnificent. It lies in the Cavo Greco area of Famagusta, one of the most striking natural bridges on the island, and it is becoming steadily better known.

You will find it on the shore near the eastern entrance to Ayia Napa, on the road towards Agioi Anargyroi, as part of the natural trail known as the Sea Caves.

The bridge itself

It is a natural rocky arch with an edge extending into clear water, shaped entirely without human intervention. The span is around six metres and the width about half a metre, with wide bedrock at the sea edge. To swim, you descend to the water.

Seals, and the boats

Most of the boat tour routes from Ayia Napa’s port run in and around the bridge, and the water here is a favourite for scuba lessons — it is striking and rich in marine life. In the summer months Mediterranean monk seals can be seen here, among the rarest species in the world; if you are lucky you will watch a pair swimming and diving. That is why it is also called the Monk Seals Bridge.

Looking west from the bridge you take in the resort area of the city; to the east lie the natural sea caves of Cavo Greco. Locals know it as the Stone Arch, or the Bridge of Korakas.
